The Pointe de la Jonction site, long occupied by a depot for buses of the Geneva Public Transport (TPG), is identified for the development of a new park in this neighborhood, therefore, it is necessary to reorganize the water activities currently taking place there. The new Jonction nautical base is part of this development and transformation process of the site.

A new project on this site specifies a detailed analysis of the urban and landscape qualities of the area, as well as a respectful and compact architectural intervention that integrates into its new environment with the objective of maintaining a maximum of natural green areas and promoting biodiversity.

Due to its location on the edge of one of the main entrances to the Park, the new nautical base demands a strong image with its own identity that responds to its urban situation. The project draws its image from the historical study of 19th-century boat houses, typically wooden constructions that explored new relationships with nature by combining the storage of small boats with institutional functions associated with private clubs.

The historical and industrial heritage of our site also connects us to pragmatic constructions for industrial use, simple and lightweight structures that express an economy of materials and a construction coherent with the locally available resources. In order to reduce the environmental impact that an entirely new construction could represent and considering the good condition of the existing building structure, the project proposes to preserve the latter while transforming and adapting it to the needs of the new program.

The existing volume is supplemented with a system of lightweight structures that houses the storage program components. The aim is to offer a unified, compact, and visually permeable volume that preserves the landscape and visual continuity of the site. A simple and assertive geometric form, which minimizes the footprint of the new building, harmoniously integrates into the environment and reinforces the cohesion and identity of the site.
